I work for a company with limited resources, which pretty much means purchasing additional equipment/software for what I am about to do is out of the question.

We currently have four Windows 2000 (SP4) servers up and running. One is my primary domain controller, the other is my secondary; the other two servers are pretty old and are member servers used for files. My PDC also happens to be my Exchange/IIS server (I know, not the best situation but it is what it is for now) and I've been thinking about setting it up as my certificate server for SSL use with OWA.

My question is, when I went to install certification services I received a message stating the following:

˘After installing certificate services, the computer cannot be renamed and the computer cannot join or be removed from the domain. Do you want to continue?÷

The ˘renamed÷ and ˘removed÷ part I completely understand. ItĂs the ˘join÷ part that has me worried. I have things running really smoothly here with no problems whatsoever. Will adding certificate services to my PDC really screw something up?

Many thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me with this issue.

hello man,

Installing certificate services does not allow you to rename your computer and remove from domain.

if you want to remove your computer from domain install certificate services as stand alone server.

nops it is not recommended.

install it as root CA and go ahead with your configuration.

nothing will screwed up. your environment will be more secure.

but remember you must choose your computer name and join it to domain.

if you need any thing else do email me to : manjunatha.bn@gmail.com
