Please advice.
When creating a receive connect to accept messages from Mail Marshal smarthost, how must you configure authentication and permissions.

I followed the same procedure. I was getting error "Server refused mail at MAIL FROM - 530 5.7.1 Client was not authenticated" I got it right after using the public IP on the receive connector.

1) Which permission group has been added under the new receive connector properties.
2) MailMarshal would give you an ip range to work with - right OR only ip address is shared with you?

The Anonymous Users are ticked. The problem was the MM IP i used. I changed it an mails started coming through.
