Hi, Wonder if you could help me. I have SBS 2003 and Exchange 2003. This has been up for a year and a half working perfectly. We connect to an external ISP for our e-mails via Exchange. Now, this is where it started to go wrong. The company merged with another and we moved the server to another building. We changed the DNS settings and added the new companies e-mail address to Exchange. This was all working perfectly as well. Due to unforeseen circumstances we have to move there server back to its original home. I re-changed the DNS address and deleted the other companies e-mail settings in Exchange: I removed the entry in the Default Policy Properties We created a separate default virtual server under Protocols>SMTP which I deleted I also created a separate SMTP connector which I also deleted. Lastly, I deleted the other company’s entries from the E-mail settings in the user’s properties. ...so, now I thought we was OK. I have found out that we can now receive e-mails but cannot send them out. We have doubled checked the settings from http://www.christensen-software.com/support/config_exchange_2003.htm and all looks well. Does anyone have any ideas? We also get the following in the Events Log: Source: Windows SharePoint Ser Event ID: 1000 #50070. Unable to connect to the database STS_Config on <domain>\SharePoint. Check the database connection information and make sure that the database server is running. Source: MSExchangeDSAccess Event ID: 2103 Process MAD.EXE (PID=2832). All Global Catalog Servers in use are not responding. Source: MSExchangeAL Event ID: 8250 The Win32.API call 'DsGetDCNameW' returned error code (0x862). The specified component could not be found in the configuration information. The service could not be initialised. Make sure that the operating system was installed properly. Source: MSExchangeAL Event ID: 8026 LDAP Bind was unsuccessful on directory <domain>.local for distinguished name". Directory returned error:[0x51] Server Down. DC=<domain>, DC=local Thanks Nick

Are you referring to Exchange on the SBS box or do you have an addtional box with a second installation of Exchange? Use Message Tracking to see where the messages are getting stuck. . Have you confirmed that your DNS records are now accurate?

Hi, Yes Exchange is on the SBS box. Domain and Exchange on the one and only server. I will have a look into message tracking and let you know the outcome. Also, the DNS is controlled by our ISP, were just pointing to there via the servers network card and I have also placed it in: Virtual DefaultServer for SMPT>Delivery>Advanced. As its the ISP DNS then I assume that it should be working as all we did was remove the server for a day. Thanks Nick

Sorry, I was referring to your internal DNS records. You do have an external SMTP connector to your ISP?

M. Fletcher, Thanks for all your help trying to assist me. I am based around 250miles away from the server Im supporting, so the owner decided to phone Microsoft support who remotely diagnoised the problem. They seemed to think it was fine and it was a host issue. The owner had already phoned the host and they said it was fine. I couple more calls to the host to say it was actually their fault finally resolved the problem. Not very good support from there end, they said a number of times that it was all fine and it was an Exchange issue, not taking responsibility for the fault which caused me loads of hassle trying different things to solve it. As you can tell Im quite new to Exchange. Thanks for all your help. Not sure what the problem was as the host said they'd phone the owner back within 20mins and about an hour later he had no calls and tried an e-mail for the hell of it and all was good, so we assume they did something. I bet you they deny they did anything. Nick
