Today many users received triplicate external mail messages. From what I can gather it was because the senders email server didnot receive acknowledgement from my mail server and so sent the mail again. Is there anyway to prevent this?

Thanks

I know that this post is 4 years old, but  I am having a similar complaint from my some of recipients of mail from my server. With 3 different e-mail send with in a 5 minute time frame, one had been received in triplicate.

This post prompted me to think about message delivery.. I has just recently made a change to Exchange Message Delivery in order to reduce the amount of SPAM hitting my servers. I enabled "Recipients Filter -> Filter recipients who are not in the Directory" setting so mail to valide e-mail address on my network will be accepted and  all other will be rejected in the Sendmail stream. This saves my server from having to deal with thousands of "undeliverable" messages.  Although, I thought that would only impact "inbound" mail, perhaps there is a validation process from other mail servers that would some how prompt my server to resend ?

Any comments?.. chime in!
