Hi,
I am running Exchange 2000 SP2 (abc.com) published by ISA firewall. In the Exchange Manager->SMTP Server->access, I select:
i) Basic authentication
-- anonymous access
-- basic authentication
-- Integrated with Windows Authentication
ii) connection
-- All
iii) Relay
-- Only the list below
192.168.10.0 255.255.255.0
-- Allow all computers who successfully authenticate to relay.

There is a problem. In our office users can send email to local email address (someone@abc.com) or external email address (say someone@hotmail.com). However,
when they connect at home, they can only send email for local email address (someone@abc.com) but cannot relay for external (someone@hotmail.com). I have already selected the "My server required authentication".
Do any one get idea? Thanks.

I am having the same problem trying to use IMAP from an external client

After allowing my ISA Server SMTP filter to allow these SMTP commands:
AUTH LOGIN
AUTH NTLM

I am now presented with a username / password box that does not seem to like any combination of my username. I tried USERNAME, DOMAIN\USERNAME, and DOMAIN\E-MAILNAME\USERNAME as stated in the previous post, but nothing works.

When I check the ISA server I note SmtpEvt errors #20031 in the Application Log with a bunch of junk in the message area (which I assume is my encrypted username / password combo.

My only other workaround now it to turn on all relaying on the server (not what I want to do)

Any ideas?

In my case it doesn't matter because the username and e-mail name are the same.

example:

NETBIOS domain = USA
FQDN = USA.MYDOMAIN.COM
USERNAME = JDOE
E-MAIL NAME = JDOE@USA.MYDOMAIN.COM

therefore I should use USA\JDOE\JDOE for authentication, correct??

When I do this it still doesn't work

It no worky!
