sigh...this error message has kept me sleepless for 3 weeks. If I send mail to user@domain.com from outside I get that error. I THINK it's doing a reverse DNS loookup, not finding something it's looking for...or even finding something 'bad" and then kicking the mail back. Now... if i send mail to the same user but from yahoo.com it goes. Also... SOME mail is actually going through. The server is exchange 2003 SP2 with GFI mail essentials running on it. I open GFI monitor and I can see mail being routed to userX@domainY.com no problem. I try to send mail from my external account to the same mailbox I get the NDR... almost instantly too. We think it might be an issue with our hosting company so I used a domain from another host and pointed the MX records to the IP of the Exchange server, added a recipient policy for that domain, added the SMTP address to one account and tested it. SAME THING!!! yahoo send no problem, most others get NDRs. I tested with Yahoo, passes. Gmail, My Company email (external to this domain), My personal domain, a Comcast account, a Verizon account...those all get NDRs. I found this article about 5.7.1 errors http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/0c04e376-1bf4-4f99-9fa2-b10b21e2f4cf.aspx But the registry entry was not listed on the server... Any thoughts?

On your Exchange server, use a telnet session to the outside domain and see how far into the SMTP message process you can get. If you have any questions about the results, reply with the error code returned and the command for which it was generated.

Thank for the reply. Can you explain this a little more? I don't think I understand.

Oh sorry... brainfart. yeah we did that and got replies. We think the host site might be messing up MX records. we are in the process of moving to a new host. not sure if this will fix the problem though

This ended up being that GFI and ESM messgae delivery options weren't getting along.

Glad to hear it. I was wondering what happened after our PM back-and-forth.

Hi I think I am having a kind of same problem. I have Windows 2003 with Exchange 2003/SP2. Someone outside of the company sent an emil to one of my users, and the senders got the following error message. ========================================== Reporting-MTA: dns; coffee.skywaywest.net X-Postfix-Queue-ID: A7A87586C68 X-Postfix- Sender: rfc822; (Sender's Emmail address) Arrival-Date: Tue, 17 Apr 2007 12:39:53 -0700 (PDT) Final-Recipient: rfc822; (Recipient's email address) Action: failed Status: 5.0.0 Diagnostic-Code: X-Postfix; host (Recipient's mail server) said: 550 5.7.1 Requested action not taken: message refused (in reply to end of DATA command) ========================================= I think there is only one person having this issue. I sent emails from gmail and few more, but all went through. In addition, I've got some emails today from outside of my exchange server. Is there anything I have to do on my Exchange server or the sender has to check their side? Thanks for any comments in advnace.
