I am running Exchange 2007 SP1 with all current windows update patches.  This is a standalone server with all possible roles installed (some roles I was unable to install due to us lacking a perimeter exchange server).

I made the mistake yesterday of creating a public folder and proceeding to remove myself from permissions without first setting the new Owner permission on another user.  As of now, no users are permitted to modify permissions from what I can tell (I cannot even view the permissions at this point).  I believe only the default 'Default' permissions is set including an 'Anonymous' permission set to 'None'.

Ofcourse I cannot choose to delete the folder.  I had attempted to use the Remove-PublicFolder commandlet within the exchange power shell – this does not seem to be giving me the effect I want (read: does nothing at all).

Furthermore, I cannot for the life of me find this Public Folder Management Console that I keep reading about in some exchange sp1 preview articles.  Has this been removed from the final sp1 release?  What am I missing?

Any suggestions as to how I can remove a single public folder (NOT the database…just a single folder)?

Aren't public folders fun?

In the release to manufacturing (RTM) version of Exchange 2007, you can only use the Add-ExchangeAdministrator cmdlet to grant public folder administrative rights to a user.
In Exchange 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1), there are two methods you can use to grant public folder administrative rights to a user:

  • Use the Add-ExchangeAdministrator cmdlet or the Add Exchange Administrator wizard to add a user to the Public Folder Administrator role.
  • Use the Add-PublicFolderAdministratorPermission cmdlet to grant or deny specific rights to public folders.

That did the trick, thank you.

Is the Public Folder Management Console non existent at this point?
