I have migrated all mailboxes to Exchange 2007. Setup replication of PF onto new servers. After 48 hours replication time, I removed refereal to old exchange servers. Removed my two mailboxserver and frontend server. This was done without any problems. However i can not remove the old administrative group. When trying to remove it with MSESM it says: 'You may not delete this administrative group because it still has items in it.' There seems to be a remaining Public folder: Internet Newsgroups which i can not get rid off. When looking inside replication only the new server resides there. Would it be safe to delete this First Administrative Group simply by using ADSEEDIT, now that referal to old servers is gone? or is there some other way of handling this problem. Many thanks in advance. cheers McFly / Henrik

If your sure that there exists nothing on the First Administrative Group, you could use the adsiedit - similar to whats mentioned in the article 833396. However, i would recommend to take the following backups before doing the great right-click-delete. 1) Backup of Exchange 2003 DB 2) Backup of AD (system state backup). Once your done with the above two - do what pleases you most - if your E2k7s is working fine.

There are no servers left in First Administrative Group. All old Exchange 2003 serveres has been removed (uninstalled). I therefore have no option of online backup. Do you mean regular (file)backup of old DB files? Why do you think i would need them? Good idea of backing up AD/system state. Thanks.

Well, its always good to keep backup (offline / online) of Exchange DB, you never know in future when would you require to restore for xyz reasons. Its no hard-n-fast rule, however thers no harm in keeping DB
