Hi all,
I have a problem that I cannot remove an old exchange server, because its hard disk is full and the information store server cannot start beside that I still have a single mailbox in it (and I don’t need that mailbox). However, i have another exchange server that I'm using now. But, I still need to remove the old one.

Now, I need to remove the entire exchange organization from the active directory without the need to remove each exchange server.

Hope anyone can help me with this.

Best regards

It is much easier if you can get the server to start so that you can remove the server correctly. If the server is out of space, then you should look to free up some space. The most common cause is transaction logs, which will compress quite easily.

If you have another Exchange server then you cannot remove the Exchange org.

Simon.

That was an option, but not anymore. I've already moved the transaction logs to an external storage.

The thing is, I'm ready to lose my exchange server, but I need a solution that can assure the total removal of all exchange attributes from the active directory.

I mean, that I need to destroy the whole exchange organization, build a new organization while keeping the active directory domain.

Hope you can help with this

The only sure fire way to remove Exchange correctly is to use add/remove programs. If you have a mailbox that is being reported on the store then find the mailbox in ADUC and remove the Exchange attributes. Then restart the Exchange services. The uninstall process will then complete successfully.

As for removing the Exchange org - have you actually looked for instructions on how to do that? There are articles on this site as well as Microsoft:
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=remove+Exchange+org

The first hit is back to this site!

Simon.

I believe you can also run the following command and try to see if any object in your entire AD has any attributes pointing to Exchange.

Open the command prompt for Windows Support tools

Type in

csvde -f C:\AD.csv

You can then open this file in an excel format and check if any of the objects are having any attributes. Also, please go ahead with the uninstall option for each server and that should do the trick. You could use the ADSIEdit to check within the configuration partition if Exchange exists.
