Hi, I have a quick (hopefully straight forward) question to ask. I currently have 3 Exchange Servers:
1 Exchange 2K, DC, DNS, WINS, and Internet Facing 1 Exchange 2K Member Server 1 Exchange 2003 Member Server
The Exch2K DC is internet facing and receives all the emails (and scans them for viruses/spam) but they are then forwarded to the Exch2003 server because all my mailboxes are here (via AD).
This means that the Exch2K member server is actually doing nothing. It used to have some mailboxes and public folders but these have been moved onto the Exch2003 server.
Therefore i am planning on removing this server. Do i just insert the Exch2K CD and do a normal uninstall procedure? Do i need to be aware of anything?

hi mate,
That is correct way...
Few things to consider.. > Take the backup of the database > take the system state backup > Move the mailbox (if you have) > Replicate the public folder and finally remove the replica information of this server
> Is this is server is first exchange server in the administrative group? if so then you need to transfer the system folder replication

yup you are correct however i am not sure for this account EUQ_SERVERNAME i believe it is used for some specific service account (if you know about that account)then you can go ahead or else you might need to move that account
I inserted the CD, ran the Exchange Setup wizard, but when i select the 'Remove' option from the Component: Microsoft Exchange 2000, i received a message saying that i have to disable the 4 mailboxes i mentioned before.

hi mate,
I would suggest you try to move EUQ_Servername mailbox and then also face problem take the system state backup and follow the below step i don't remember the exact key word..
Install windows support tool Click on Run - ADSIEDIT.msc Expand configuration partition Expand Services Expand Microsoft Exchange Expand the organization Expand First Administrative Group Expand Servers Expand that server Expand First Storage group Right click the mailbox store and select 3 optioins underthat Check there will be some contain mdb as a word ( i can't remember the term) or see that whether you are able to see those 4 mailboxes only.
I don't think that you will see those 4 Mailboxes in ADSIEDIT.msc , instead what you can do is:- when you go to First Storage Group in ADSIEDIT.msc--->on the right hand you will see the cn=MailBox Store (name of mailboxstore). you can delete this if you dont have any user's mailbox in that server which has to be moved to your Exchange 2003 server. Don't Forget to take the system state backup and database backup.
Ismail is correct the attribute is HomeMDDBL. You would find all the mailbox enabled user accounts along with their DN values - using DN you can easily find those users - once you have found them - remove attributes from those users.
@Nandy: Deleting the store wont help since the attributes from those user accounts wont be removed by doing this - instead you would then loose the chance to search for those users using ADSIEDIT. Yes, there are other means - but why make things complicated. Understood bro
After a whole morning of fighting the good fight with BackupExec I have finally got my First Storage Group restored, consistency checked and re mounted!
Hurrah for that bit.
But I am having real trouble with getting any mail to process through the MTA - I cant even email local accounts let alone send out. Grrrr, it all looks OK but something is not right with the routing somewhere but the Event messages are good for nothing
