I assume you mean Email domains, you would need to remove: Email addresses from appropiate users. The appropiate Recipient Policies The appropiate Recipient Update Service (RUS) Any dns entries eg mx, a records (if not required). Any smtp settings with specific email domain settings.

No, I think any changes are dynamically applied.

It will mean the policy is applied but any unticked entries are not applied, basically its not doing anything. Ideally, when you are happy that the policy is no longer required, then you can delete it.

Use nslookup and use 'set type MX' and then enter the domain name and see if it resolves ok. If not then the other company have not completed their mail setup yet or its not registered on internet dns or something.

we have the same issue with exchange 2003. i even readded the policy and removed it and no go. mx record points correct no dns records pointing else where. driving me crazy. I know the server is still accepting email because i add the email and it takes it else The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address.

Ref: http://forums.msexchange.org/m_1800488586/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm#1800488775 @dabwang12: Please paste your NDR which you receive. Perform the telnet test and verify if you are able to drop emails. Also, if it has been less than 48hrs the new MX record has been set up. I would wait for the DNS information to get populated and mail flow to resume. One another question - are you able to drop emails using gmail / yahoo to the concerned domain ? If yes it seems that there is some communication / authentication lapse between yours and their boxes. @cybersynergy: I have left a method to remove email address given on the thread which you had started. Have a look.

I had exactly the same problem in my organization. -Removed any MX records -deleted the old mail domain from Recipient Policies -removed the domain from all user's e-mail addresses. -Rebuild the RUS. => Exchange was still considering the domain as local. Searched the metabase.xml and found 2 entries pointing to this old domain. Removed it manually + IISRESET. and Now it works fine! Thanks for this great tip. Paaat.
