After a total server breakdown I have only been able to restore priv.edb and pub.edb, can I in any way restore the exchange server (5.5)
I dont know the original organisation and site name.

You also need dir.edb which contains the mailbox information. Not having the org name and site name is bad.
You might be able to get names from dir.edb using some sort of hex editor to read the binary file.

Actually the Org and Site info is in the dir.edb.

It helps to know but may not be needed.

If you do not have the dir.edb then you have to have the org and site info. from there... there are tools that will read the priv.edb and rebuild the dir.edb

This is something known as a pure disaster.. but there is an aletrnative.

in the location where you have the old Pub.edb (from the olf server). fun the following command

find /i 'ou'= .. pub.edb

this would give you the Org name and Site Name see if this helps you.
