I searched quite a bit on this site as I always do as well as the Internet but I cannot really find an answer to this. I have completed my migration to 2007 with very few problems thanks to this site. My plan after the migration was to leave my Exchange 2003 server up and running so I could restore old backups to the RSG and perform Exmerge's. This is a requirement for my company because of audits and such that we are still able to restore old Exchange data. Well I was testing this and I was able to restore to the recovery group just fine but when I ran Exmerge I was unable to export anything. It seems like it won't let me run Exmerge against the RSG because the mailboxes are not homed on that server anymore. What are my options for being able to restore old Exchange 2003 DB's? The errors I am getting are below. Thanks, Eric Copying data from mailbox 'Rizzo, Frank' ('Frank_Rizzo') on Server '2003MBX' to file 'D:\RESTORE\Frank_Rizzo.PST'. [08:03:57] Error opening message store (MSEMS). Verify that the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service is running and that you have the correct permissions to log on. (0x8004011d) [08:03:57] Errors encountered. Copy process aborted for mailbox 'Rizzo, Frank'('Frank_Rizzo').

hi, as far as your log is concerned it seems to be permission issue, do you have send as and receive as permission and make sure deny option is not checked. I would suggest you to test with test mailbox and try to do exmerge process.

Ismail, Thanks for the reply. It should not be a permissions issues as the user I am using has full access to all mailboxes in the company. Also I was able to do this same process when my mailboxes were on the 2003 server. Should this process work now that my mailboxes are on 2007? Thanks, Eric

hi mate, I missed out the old information which u posted. If your mailbox moved to another server and restoring the database of old server then it won't work because it is rehomed. Alternate suggestion create a dummy server as like you have in production for Exchange 2003 in the different subnet mask.
