User needs an email from 3 months back. np
Recall tape from 3 months back and merge into ArcServe. np
Ready to restore IS but want to do so on an Exchange Box that will sit by and do nothing but ready itself for times like this.
Don't want to upset current Exchange environment, can I install Exchange 2000 into domain and have it be totally seperate from our current Exchange environment (Were a restore of IS will not affect anything and other Exchange Boxes don't even know this new guy will exist)?

Thanks,

Yes, you can restore in a different domain, or a different server in the same domain.

Make sure you have the Exchange org name, Administrative group name and mailbox store name same as live.

Also check for the legacy Dn name.

you can download a tool "legacydn" from microsoft website. this will help you to check the legacy Dn.

also make sure you have enough space on the restore server for the backup to be restored.
