I am wondering if anyone has any ideas on how I can restrict who within the company can receive interet emails.

Currently our IMC is configured to only send messages from Internal if you are a member of a particular distribution list. We have now been asked if we can stop messages from being received by everyone except those in the allowed to send list.

Under E5.5 I would have just removed their SMTP addresses, but we are in the process of Upgrading to E2k and it appears that everyone has to have an SMTP address by default.

Any ideas?

Regards
Col.

You can do the same via Delivery Restrictions on the 'SMTP Connector' in the Routing Groups on Exchange 2000.

Using delivery restriction I can only see how to accept or reject messages from a set of people, not how to set who can receive email from anybody.

I have done this by setting up a 'fake' domain for my internal users. All users that are not allowed to use internet e-mail only have an internal address. This way they can send e-mails internally but not externally.

Thanks for the responses, from your responses we have decided to use a similar system to the fake email addresses.

We are going to give everyone an SMTP address based on our internal domain name, therefore this address can not be externally resolved. Those that are granted Internet Access will have their primary SMTP address set to our external address and be added to the group that are allowed to send Internet email.
