A user with an email address user@domain.com used to work in the office and received mail through the SBS2000 exchange server at the office. Now, he works mostly out of town and uses his own internet account to surf the net and check mail (user@non-exchange-domain.com). However, he still wants to keep his user@domain.com account and wants all mail to be forwarded to his other internet account. I am relatively new to Exchange and don't really know how this can be done. I have looked at routing but my understanding is that routing is for moving mail from one exchange based server to another exchange based server. Can anyone tell me if my understanding is correct and, if so, where I can find information to help me accomplish what I need to do? Thanks!

You need to create a MAIL-enabled user. When creating a user dont select "create mailbox" After done, click on the user and do establish mail address. Email sent to username@server.com will be forwarded to the email addy you "Established". Also read help in mail-enabled.

Hi there, I suggest you using basic auth for your virtual POP3 in order the user@domain.com can access the server (from the ISP) with proper name and password same to his/her win2000 logon password. At least that what I do to let user downloads his/her Exchange mailbox

Hi, depends on what this person wants to keep his acct for - to actually use and log into or just for the proxy address. If it's just the address, it's like Anton said - create a mail-enabled user without a mailbox and set up the correct address. Or, if your user wants to have an acct to log into, keep his current acct/mailbox and simply have that user set a server side rule for forwarding via the Outlook client. This rule will work even when Outlook is not open.

Thanks for all the help. I did look at mail-enabled user. However, according to the MS KB article, mail-enabling a user only allow the user to forward mail to another account WITHIN the organization. In my case, I need to foward the mail from within the organization to OUTSIDE the organization (e.g.: from user@company.com to myself@yahoo.com). This is what I'm stuck at. Can this be done?

Ok. I got it working by creating a new e-mail contact with e-mail address that is outside the organization, and then forward the target user's mail to that contact address. Thanks again for all your help!
