Hi,

I send an email to a client and I receive the "smtp; 5.7.1 Request action not taken: message refused" message from their server

The interesting thing is that the messasge reaches the receipient but I still get the NDR.  I applied filters to their server recently and my guess is that this is the issue (since I have a DSL with a static IP) but I'm not sure which way to look

Thanks

hi,

I am not frequently worked on mailflow issue but it seems to be
Delivery not authorized, message refused.

I would like you to test by telnet. Do you have cisco pix firewall in the picture if so then you need to disable mailguard pix.

Below i have list of url which might help you for putting some light on this issue

Thanks for the reply.

When I sent an email using telnet the message was delivered and no NDR was generate. But using Outlook and Exchange still generates the NDR although the messae is delivered.

I enabled SMTP logging on the sending server and I saw message with event id 7512.  It says that the IMF is rejecting the message.  I disabled IMF on the receving server, restarted SMTP service, but the message is the same.

I don't know if it makes any difference but the message in the event viewer, shows the message id using the internal domain. e.g. 65874569854566@server.domain.local

I checked in the Default SMTP Virtual Server and the FQDN is set to the external domain name: domain.com

I must have spend over 6 hours investigating this issue and I have no clue which way to look now

Thanks again

One more thing I just discovered.

The NDR goes only to one email address from the whole domain.  All the other addresses can send without a problem

Well...

The problem went away. Not sure what caused it or what solved it...

Thanks again

Good to hear that finally your issue got resolve, if it is resolve after the change we have done IMF then i guess IMF was the cause.

I realise this post is old, but figured i'll throw my 2 cents worth as we were getting a similar issue and I found a resolution.

We also got SMTP 550 message refused errors (however did not get the "Requested action not taken" bit) but the message was never delivered to the final destination either.  Tried recreating the mailbox and everything - turns out the problem was with the persons signature.  Leaving the signature in the message we get the NDR, taking it out it worked a treat. Something weird under Outlook, possibly ActiveX code in the HTML signature or something being blocked by IMF???  Anyways, try removing the users signature and see if that helps.
