Here's the problem:

Exchange 2003 running on Windows 2003

With our T1 internet connection our Microsoft Exchange server was working fine.
We changed our internet to CFL Road Runner. And changed all of our DNS settings on register.com
We are now getting all our emails but we are having a problem sending emails.
The error we get is SMTP could not connect to DNS server. The only setting we could find is in

Administrative Groups
-First Administrative Group
-Servers
-Routing Groups
-First Routing Group
-Connectors
-Internet Mail SMTP Connector

On the general tab is set to use our internal DNS server.

Is there another setting in Exchange or in DNS that we need to change to the new DNS servers we have?

On the SMTP connector you should have "Use DNS" checked and also make sure that on the Default SMTP virtual server Properties, you do not have any IPs under the last tab Configure. On your DNS server properties, Forwarders tab, you should have the new Forwarders set up - the ones provided by CFL and not the old ones. Also check your name resolution with NSLOOKUP. Try to restart your DNS client and run ipconfig /flushdns and /registerdns on Exchange. This should do it.

Hello Ron,

Thanks very much. As you pointed out, the last configure button did have our old DNS setting. After making the changes, it finally works.

Thanks again. Much obliged.
