I have a server running SBS 2003 and outbound emails are getting stuck in the default "SmallBusiness SMTP Connector" If I create a new SMTP connector for say "newdomain.com", and then set the connector to forward to the smart host IP of this domain then emails addressed to "newdomain.com" start to go out. Obviously i can't keep creating new connectors for every possible email domain :( not sure where the setting is that is stopping my smallbusiness connector, so wondering if someone can help me out please? Thanks :-)

Do you have an SMTP connector that is intended for all outbound messages? If so, did you configure it to send out using DNS, or to a smarthost? On the Address Space tab, do you have an entry for "*", or did you name specific domains? If you open a command prompt window, are you able to resolve MX records for other domains using NSLookup?

Do you have an SMTP connector that is intended for all outbound messages? - Yes If so, did you configure it to send out using DNS, or to a smarthost? - DNS On the Address Space tab, do you have an entry for "*", or did you name specific domains? - I have a "*" If you open a command prompt window, are you able to resolve MX records for other domains using NSLookup? - Yes, I am able to resolve the MX recorads for all the domains getting stuck For example, hotmail was getting stuck. If I create a separate Hotmail SMTP connector and use "smart host" (instead of DNS) and plug in the IP address of the MX record for hotmail ..... and change the address space to "hotmail.com" (instead of "*") and tick the box "all messages to be relayed to these domains" then all emails to hotmail will work fine From this angle, you would think DNS is the problem. But that doesn't explain why this machine is able to resolve the MX records without a problem? Someone please help, as I have no clue how to proceed with this :(

Do you have an SMTP connector that is intended for all outbound messages? - Yes I just want to clarify this a little further .......... I have 5 SMTP connectors in total: > 3 are for related domains. They have an SMTP cost of "1" and are set to use a smart host IP address and the associated domain name address space > 1 is a connector for a different exchange server (unrelated company) which runs on our internal network. This connector has an SMTP cost of "1" and is set to use a smart host IP address (internal IP) and the associated domain name address space > the final connector is for all other SMTP mail. It's address space is "*" and it's SMTP cost is set to "25" and its set to use "DNS" for forwarding. Not sure if this might be related to the problem, so just wanted to explain that a little better.

What does Message Tracking say about one of these stuck messages? Does this affect all messages going out through that connector, or just some? What happens if you use Telnet to send out a message from the Exchange server?
