I need everyone expert opinion on this layout. I was think of setting up my
AD behind the DMZ and my E2K server outside the DMZ. Have SSL running
whenever anyone is accessing OWA it will be secure. Does this sound good?
I heard several horror stories about OWA with out any SSL. Also what about
my E2K server being outside the DMZ I risking it to exposer to the real
world. They do have a VPN in place now but ppl have to login to their VPN
just to check their email, which isn't a great idea. Please offer any
suggestion you may have. As you see I'm in the begining stage of
re-designing my first network. Also does anyone know of any good sites about
CA and SSL for newbies. Thanks again...

Don't forget the concept of a Front End-Back End server. The front end runs in the DMZ and handles SSL-OWA traffic as well as POP3, IMAP4 and SMTP. The Backend server sits behind the firewall and interacts with active directory and houses the mail store as well as servicing MAPI clients. This is a method reccommended by Microsoft.
