SSL hostname mismatch - 4.Nov.2010 3:26:25 PM

I have implemented two Client Access Servers in my Exchange 2010 environment. These servers will act as Internet-facing OWA machines. The external domain that they will be using is mail.mycompany.com. I have purchased a wildcard SSL certificate for mycompany.com. All of this works fine. The problem is that my internal Windows domain is mycompany.local. If I connect to either of the client access servers using Outlook I get an SSL mismatch error. I have read about disjointed DNS namespaces and changing the DNS suffixes to mycompany.local and mycompany.com but that did not solve my issue. I tried configuring my Outlook client to connect to exchange-cas1.mycompany.com but it figured out that the internal name of the server is actually exchange-cas1.mycompany.local and changed it automatically. To be clear, I want to use the *.mycompany.com SSL certificate for all internal and external SSL requests. What is the best way to go about fixing this problem?

Buy a SAN SSL Certificate rather than a Wildcard certificate.

A SAN certificate will allow you to state alternative names within the certificate also.
