I am in need of insight with this send connector. Existing 2003 exch server. New hardware for new 2010 exch server. Updated AD prepared network for 2008 server and 2010 exch. I'm using the Rapid transition guide from exchange 2003 to exchange 2010. I go through the process and get to the send connector and as soon as i add the send connector external mails fails. All external mail gets stuck in unreachable destination queue on 2003 side. Internal mail works fine.

I confirmed with ISP our firewall is configured with a public IP for 2003 and 2010 and I had them mirror port configurations on the 2003 internal ip so the internal ip for 2010 matched.

I'm at a loss here as I do not know what to do to resolve the issue with sending externally.

Do i need to provide more information? Can someone assist me with this and explain what is happening?

Are you able to send mail between mailboxes on the 2003 and 2010 servers?

Are you able to telnet from the 2003 server to 2010 on port 25 and successfully connect?

Are you able to telnet from the 2010 server to an MX on the internet and successfully connect?

Is there a pair of routing group connectors between the 2003 and 2010 servers (run Get-RoutingGroupConnector to see)?

Is there a smarthost configured on the 2003 server? See this article if you're not sure what I mean (it refers to 2003->2007 but its the same issue)
