Hi folks, I really need to solve this problem. We have a domain abc.com hosted at a webhotel with about 40 POP3 accounts. Some of those are accessed by our external consultants and only 10 are needed internally. What has been done is, that all these 10 mail accounts are converted into some other domain xyz.com and then forwarded to our exchange server. The MX record for that new domain points directly to our mail server. So we should receive that mail without any problem. Now I wonder how to convert these mails back to the original domain abc.com? SO that it appears to the people who we sent to, as coming from abc.com. Do I have to do it at my server? How? I understand that its only the receiving part that is coming through all this "circus" and we can send mail directly to outside world from our Exchange server, right!

Now how can I make it so that when we send the mail to outside, it appears from the abc.com rather than from xyz.com?

I know its a mess and the reason why I need to know all this now is the fact that we are migrating from Exchange 5.5 to SBS 2003. The previous guy who took care of the network left not even a single page of documentation :-( .

Any help regarding above is much appreciated, many thanks in advance!

Regards,
Zotigo

Never mind guys, I found it out myself and it turned out not to be a very big one. For someone who might need it later on, here is what to do. I know for most of the guys here, its just very simple but incase there are others jus tlike me, I think I better discuss it a bit here .
Add both domains to Exchange as SMTP and then choose the one that you want to send mail from (it will appear to have been sent from this one) as the primary or default account under Recepients policy. Now the user will receive from all the accounts that are there but whenever he will send a mail, it will appear to be sent from the default or primary account.
In my case, I was receiving mail from abc.com and sending from xyz.com (because my primary account was set to xyz.com).

hello,

I am having the same problem, in which I have just posted a note on this board.

I did the same thing on my SBS 2003 Server by changing the recipient policies but still it did not work....

Did you have to do anything in addition once you changed it in the policies?

Is it possible to give some guiding steps as to what exactly you did so I can do the same on mine?

I hope you can pleeease help me with this issue...

Hoping to hear back from you....

I also have a similar problem on SBS 2003 except I would like exchange and outlook to reply back as the orginal sender.

I.E any mail coming from abc.com is replied back as abc.com and any email coming from xyz.com is replied back as xyz.com

I am gonna try the obvious and call microsoft . I suspect SBS has reduced features and cant handle mutliple domains?

If anyone has resolved these type of issues please let me know. Ill feed back what Microsoft said latter
