 Hi,
I installed winNT4 with SP6, Exchange 5.5 with SP3 and my server restarts unexcpectedly without logging errors.
Can anyone help me with this issue.

Status: offline 		How often does it restart? If it's not too often you could disable Exchange and see how l;ong it stays up, if it still restarts without Exchange running I would guess your problem is NT. If it stays up, increase the logging on Exchange and check them after the next restart.

I hate to state the obvious, but I've also heard of cleaners removing the power from the wall to plug in a vacuum cleaner, so check for this.

Status: offline 		What errors are reported in the Event Viewer before the spontaneous reboot?

In Control Panel, System, Startup/Shutdown, uncheck the Automatically Reboot option.

You need to see and analyze the Blue Screen error that is undoubtedly preceeding the restart.

 The server crashed with the Blue Screen Error:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL aic78u2.sys

I think it's the SCSI adapter driver.
but i don't know what should i do.
The server is updated with SP6.
Shall i update the driver for the adapter?
Please help.

Status: offline 		Try downloading service pack 6A. Service pack 6 has some issues, but I don't know all the details. We never run 6 only 6A without any problems.

Status: offline 		The usual things to check, if the SP reapplication did not resolve, are the resources of the SCSI adaptor and for the proper driver, the latest from the SCSI card maker.

I think it's the SCSI adapter driver.

The server is updated with SP6.

 I re-installed SP6a but still same problem, the server still crashing.

Status: offline 		How much mem. do you have in it? It may be a bad chip...Try removing as much as you can see if it becomes stable....

 Something really crazy, but actually happened to me... We were experiencing sporadic crashes and random blue screens and tried everything to fix it. We found out, almost accidentally, that one of the two CPU fans was failing and causing chip to overheat and reboot server. We replaced the fan and the problem stopped.

Status: offline 		I had an NT 4.0 server that did the very same thing. It was very odd. It shut itself down at random times. I tried to narrow it down as much as possible with no conclusion. It was finally determined by Microsoft that the driver for the Linksys NIC I was using was corrupt causing this to happpen. I replaced the Linksys with a 3com and no more problems.

 Yeah guys, thanks a lot for your help i found what was the problem:
my SCSI hard drive contains bad sectors and it was an old one
anyway, once again i appreciate ur replies.
