I have an Exchange 2007 SP1 environment. I want to move to new hardware and 2008 R2. I know that only Sp3 supports R2. Can I install 2007 Sp3 on the new hardware/OS then migrate everything? Can a 2007 SP1 server coexist with a 2007 SP3 server?

Thanks for the quick reply.

I posted this same question on Technet and got this response:

"this may work but it is not recommanded to run a mixed Exchange environment with diffrent level of installed serrvicepacks."

You're migrating away from one to the other. It will be perfectly fine for the period of your migration.

Would it be ok to leave the old server running for a few months for CAS while i get everything running on the new server and have time to migrate all the users outlook and phones?

If things aren't that urgent then you should upgrade the box and match the SP level. You either need to migrate quickly or you don't. If you don;t, upgrade it.

I only asked because I am unable to patch/reboot the Sp1 machine at this time. once everything has been moved I would probably be able to, but that will be a few weeks.
