Hi, Here's a big one. I want to set up a secured POP3 service but I don't know anything about it. Well, I know some stuff that i read on forums, wikipedia support sites and so on. Anyway, it's the small details/questions i need help with. 1. I heard that POP3 and OWA can't be active on the same Exchange server, something about SSL on Exchange/ISA, is that true? 2. Another thing that i read somewhere is that secured POP3 needs alot of ports open, which ports does it need actually? 3. Is there a step-by-step checklist on how to set up a secured POP3? 4. Does the certificate help me to secure the POP3 at all, or is it only on OWA? All comments are welcomed. Best regards, Mario

You seem to have been reading a lot of FUD. Love to see the source of some of the garbage. There is no problem with OWA and POP3 on the same server. POP3 doesn't need lots of ports open - only one the secure port (995). I am not aware of any checklist, as there isn't much to it. Buy certificate Import certificate in to IIS (which will secure OWA etc) Then run the Certificate wizard in POP3 virtual server in ESM and choose to assign an existing certificate. Choose the certificate you have already purchased. Change the port on the POP3 virtual server to the secure port. Takes longer to get the certificate than to configure Exchange. Simon.

Hi, This is the status right now. I hade some problems to configure ISA server so i decided to connect directlly to FrontEnd servern instead to save some testing time. I have configured my client that is located internal and configureted it to connect to port 995 (pop3s) and 465 (smtps). Following worked fine at outlook test: Establish network connection Find outgoing mail server (SMTP) Following didnt worked well: Find incoming mail server (POP3) Send test e-mail message Following didn't run at all Log onto incoming mail server (POP3) Can you point a direction where i can read more about this problems?

Can you telnet to the secure port? Are you you using the same name in the client as on the certificate? Simon.

Ok, the thing is that i havn't installed a certificate on the client. Don't know how to do that. Should i do it from MMC / Certificate? Anyway, i tried to telnet the FrontEnd server and I didn't get any message, i had a blank line for a sec, then i returned to commando promt again. What does this mean? Thank you for all help.

If you are using a commercial SSL certificate then you shouldn't need to install anything on the client. If the telnet test failed then that probably means the port is blocked. Simon.
