Hi, I am currently installing exchange 2007 on the server. Now i want that two domains a.com and b.com works on the server. I have made the b.com as accepted domain. Now what steps i should take in order to get it working. The problems that i am facing are as follows ---> 1) My main domain is a.com. When i create new user there is no b.com drop down list to add the user to b.com domain. Please advise and thanks in advance...

Are you talking about the SMTP Email Address on the user's properties in Exchange Console? If so, you will have to add the b.com domain in your Email Address Policy.

Hi, Ok i have created the policy also and run the policy. But then there are two email accounts for the same user as test@a.com and test@b.com. Even after i delete the a.com email account from his properties he is able to login to it..... Secondly can you please update me that is there any way by which i can get the second email domain when i create the new users. As we would like to implement shared hosting servers and in that senario i have to create a policy for each and every domain. Thanks.......

This is what I understand as your deployment currently: 1. You mean you have one mailbox user named Test with 2 email addresses (test@a.com and test@b.com). 2. You have 2 Accepted Domains named a.com and b.com. 3. You have 1 Email Address Policy for all users. Not sure what you mean by login to it after you delete a domain. The authentication for the user at this time will have to be the Domain that exchange server is in or at least have Domain Trusts in place for authentication if the user is located in another domain. For Example, ExchSrv1.abc.local has accepted domains a.com and b.com. People who log in will always be using the abc.local domain for authentication and not the a.com and b.com since those are SMTP domains. Logging into a mailbox is not determined by the email addresses, although if you just appended the mailbox name to the URL, you can get in. For Example, if I went to https://webmail.abc.com. I should be able to go to https://webmail.abc.com/owa/test@a.com and https://webmail.abc.com/owa/test@b.com. What you can do with E-mail Address Policies is that you can apply conditions (filtering) on users by using the following fields: - State or Province
- Department
- Company
- Custom Attributes
Once you apply the conditions, you will have to remember to input the conditional fields when adding new people. Create an Email Address Policy for each one of those scenarios. After you do that, the system takes care of itself in regards with Email Addressing. Like if you want everyone with the Company Name of Contoso to have the a.com email address, just remember to put in Contoso on the company field for all of the users you want. I hope I was helpful.

Hi, Thanks Draconis for your time and valuable suggestions. But I made somewhat more clear ----> I am trying to provide shared hosting exchange service to others. Now in shared hosting what will be the case is that a user should be albe to get the email id as test@a.com and abc@b.com etc. And they are different domains. What i am able to do and understand till now is that For my domain part i have to add them to Accepted Domains list. And have to set some kind of email policy. Now my major question is that when i create a user then its only created for my default domain and there is no option of creating a user for domains a and b.com. Now if i somehow get the domain part by using email policy then also the user is able to login with his name + my default domain name. So can you please tell me how I should go for shared hosting Excange service. Is i am doing many things wrong, or some of them. Please let me know the correct steps if possible. Thanks for your valuable time.....

Hi, What you are looking for is a bit difficult. It's quite hard to use Exchange if you do Shared Hosting and still use the default technologies accompanying the base installation. By default, Address Lists are created within the system. Our exchange server is hosted in Virginia by a Shared Hosting Vendor. Let me fish around and see how they are providing this service. Currently, we rent the hardware on a monthly basis. They provide our servers and the operating systems and antivirus that accompany them. We purchased our Exchange Server 2007 license separately and we paid for the Exchange seats as well. So we have a domain controller at their site and an exchange server with the CAS, HT, and Mailbox server roles. We have a VPN from their datacenter to our corporate network. They offer shared hosting for exchange. I will ask them on how their setup is like. I'll let you know what I find.

OK. Here's what I found out. They will create a new forest for each company they are hosting. I really dont think there is a way to abstract the security and administration scope which is probably why they are creating a new forest for each company. You will have to invest in VMWare ESX deployments or Microsoft's Hypervisor to lower the costs by virtualizing the hardware. You will have to get a hit on each company for the Exchange 2007 licenses. If a customer's company has an existing AD infrastructure, you will have to accomodate a VPN tunnel to your hosting environment to provide AD authentication for them so technically, you are not creating a new forest for them but actually extending their AD deployment. If you accomodate VPN tunneling for people, you will get a bit more possible customers since you will be able to provide a lot more services. One thing you can also do is deploy a citrix environment so that the users can just log into your site and have a full fledged Outlook client wherever they are in the world. I hope this helps.
