Hi all! In my mdbdata folder i have a tmp.edb file which has a size of 13Gb.What is this file? The logical disk free space is down to 25Mb. I also have circular logging enabled, because normal or differiential backups were not starting. This started a month back and now the Exchange server is close to collapsing.......The size of the mdbdata folder is 30.4Gb. I need to reduce the size fast. Pls Help !

The tmp.edb file contains temporary information used by the information store and directory services while running.
Shutting down the Information Store gracefully typically deletes the tmp.edb file.

As my envoirenment is a production specific, at present i can't shut dowm the information store. Is there any other option of deleting this file without shutting down the store?

That is the way to do it, can't you restart the Information Store during non-working hours?

stop the exchange IS service.
That should write it all correctly.
Suggest you take a backup, get the errors sorted that are created doing the backup and if possible get more disk space on that server. Then you can split the transaction logs and IS files onto different disks.

By clicking Start > Run > type Services.msc then restart the Exchange Information Store Service.
Or do it using the NET STOP/START command in a CMP Prompt.
