Hi All,

I know this might be a shot in the dark but I wonder if anyone of you knows what percentage (or better yet the number) of existing Exchange server users (companies) are still in Exchange 5.5.

Why ask? management wont approve the upgrade budget to 2K7 if there are still alot using Exchange 5.5. So I'm in a fact-finding mission to convince them that we are rare breed!

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The information you are asking for is available, but not for free - if your boss wants to spend $2.5K to discover it, see http://www.ferris.com/?p=318858.

Of course, they are asking because they don't want to spend any money, but this is a ploy often used by management.  Your job is to outline the risks (and therefore the costs) associated with their current policy, and make a business case for them spending money.

If they truly realised how much at risk their email service was at by running on old, unsupported versions, with (probably) obsolete hardware platforms as well, and how significant and vital the email service was to their business, they'd upgrade in a flash.  So, that's your assignment - write that business case for them.
