Recently moved E2K over to a new server(W2K+SP4). Have E2K+SP3 and post-SP3 Rollup installed. The store.exe process starts small (100MB or so) and slowly, but surely, takes more and more RAM until there's only about 30MB left.
Once that happens, the SMTP VM queues start backing up until the store basically stops responding. Only rebooting seems to help and this is necessary approx. every 30 hours.

Need some help here.

Sounds like you need more memory? How much memory do you have? If you have over 1Gb of memory, try the /3GB switch in Boot.ini to allow more memory for Store.exe.

I'm having a similar problem, we have one exchange server - Windows 2000 standard running Exchange 2000 enterprise. I'm getting event errors 9582 on the hour, eventually store.exe falls over and you have to restart it. I've searched ms support on this and it should only affect exchange servers in a cluster. We're not running Advanced server so the /3GB switch does not apply.

Any ideas?

Thanks

P.

Discovered the problem was Groupsheild for exchange, it was doing a background scan on the mailbox and public stores. This caused store.exe to use up all the virtual memory and the information store would fall over. Exchange is now working as it should!

Cheers

parky, what version of Groupshield were you running? What did you do to fix it?

Did you remove Groupshield? Get an update from McAfee?

Install different antivirus software?

Thanks,
Leebster

Groupsheild 4.5, I made the change by removing the background scan from the configuration settings - start, programs, McAfee, Groupsheild Exchange, Groupsheild Exchange Manager.

Highlight Configuration, right click and select properties, select the VS API tab and deselect background scanning from the tick box (make sure background scanning is also removed from the database settings).

Cheers

I am also having a similar issue. My environment is different than everyone else. I am running SBS2000. The store.exe didn't start to use up memory until I installed CA's eTrust Virus Protection. I have worked with CA and they had me filter out files and processes. The store.exe was removed from the scan. So on a daily basis I have to go into services and restart the information store to free up memory.

Same problem here,
Win2k Small Business Server with SP3 and Exchange 2000.

But it looks like it's pre-reserved memory, when you for example open 30 internet explorer windows and after that you close them again. you will see the memory used by STORE.EXE will be lower than before you started this action.

I hope this is a clear explaination, english isn't my best language [Smile]

I too am running SBS2k SP4 Exchange SP3 and am suffering with STORE.EXE memory sap.

I am running McAfee Groupshield with VS API background scanning OFF.

Still seems to hold RAM, albeit I have not tried any service or OS restart.

Any further ideas / advice or users experiencing same?

Best regards

Exchange 5.5 on Dual CPU compaq proliant server.

running into the similar problem, store.exe memory keep increasing when i run a MAPI application, which basically extract messages from a mailbox. We are freeing almost all MAPI memory that the app uses.

Pls give some pointers on this issue?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Venkat

DO NOT SCAN THE M DRIVE!

If you are then that can lead to major problems.

I have removed the M Drive from my eTrust Antivirus v.7 scan via the filter option. Still the store.exe grows on a daily basis.

Not too helpful a'm afraid, Same probs with SBS2K SP4 and Ex2K SP1, looked at the doc you suggested, but only goes to pg 18!

Think it is the Virus scan, as We have AVG Exchange, although not tampered with any settings... YET!

My company is running SBS2k with post SP4 + hotfix patch from Microsoft. Store is still using all available memory over a period of 4 hours, the only way to clear down this is to restart the information store.

Does anyone know of any further fixes or is there a way to restart the info store automatically?
