... I hope someone can help me. I have setup a VPN using the remote access feature on one of my Server 2k3 Application servers. The VPN is in place so remote users can access a file share on said server. The VPN works great through the XP client. HOWEVER, when remote users use windows XP to connect to my application server they can no longer access OWA through their internet browser. OWA works great when you disconnect from the VPN, sign on to the VPN and you can't ping the OWA webpage or access it through a browser Please help!!! Thank you =)

Sounds like a DNS issue while connected to the VPN. When connected, see if they can browse to http:\\<exchangeservername>\exchange.

Actually I believe it is a router problem at the remote sites, I just installed the VPN at my hawaii office, they have a linksys RV042 Router, the other sites have a netopia 3347-02 routers, I cannot find any differences in their security settings but obviously something is different since this is the only variable that has changed and it causes OWA to work while connected to VPN. Any suggestions on what to check on the router settings would be GREATLY apprceciated. Thank you.

When your remote user is connected to the VPN, what happens if you attempt to ping the URL you use for OWA? It doesn't matter if the ping responds, it's more critical to see if it resolves the name to the appropriate address. What does "ipconfig /all" say about DNS while connected to VPN? Is the VPN access point in the same physical location as the Exchange server used for OWA? Are they in the same subnet? Did you test the URL I mentioned before? What happened?

The website you gave me does not work while connected to the VPN, pinging the owa webaddress will resolve the ip address but the connection times out. I believe it is a port that is blocked as this issue does not occur on the other router, as i mentioned before

I have seen this lots of times when the same IP address range is used on both sides. 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x If you are using either of those internally then access to internal things will often fail. I would doubt if it was a port blocking, as that defeats the point of a VPN! Simon.

They are both using local addresses however on the remote side they are using 10.105.xxx.x on the server side the address is 10.200.xxx.x This appears to be a 'different range' but maybe I am mistaken.

That depends on the subnet mask. If the mask is 255.0.0.0 then you will still having routing issues. Simon.
