Hi

I am just about to uninstall exchange from a server but it will not tell me continue until the mail boxes are deleted or moved. So I deleted all the mail boxes, but in the mailbox store > mailboxes 5 still appear. 3 mail boxes are users on the network but they have a red marker on them and 2 system attendant mailboxes. Although I have deleted the mail boxes they are still there. I have tried to run the cleanup agent on the mail boxes but they don’t go away.

Please help

hi,

Open the ADSIEDIT.msc
go to configuration => Services => Ms Exchange => Org => Administrative group => Server name => First Storage group => Mailbox store => Properties
Select "show mandatory attributes" "show optional attributes" & "show only attributes that have values"

check for homemdbbl

The above value show display the list of mailboxes which are connected to the users account. Confirm that all the users have no mailbox.

Then you can try uninstall.

hi,

I guess you don't have windows support tool installed.

Please install windows support tool and then go to start => Run => ADSIEDIT.msc

hi,

When you open adsiedit.msc
Expand configuration partition => Services => Microsoft Exchange =>Org Name => Administrative Group Name => First Administrative Group name => Servers => Server name => First Storage Group => Mailbox store => Properties.

Select all three options and then search for homemdbbl

can u please let me know do you have any disconnected mailbox in the mailbox store, if so can we try to purge them (Only after taking the backup)

because the mailbox which you are able to see the system mailbox which should not cause the problem when you are uninstalling.

By the way when you try to uninstall what is the error message it is giving?

I have not done anything to these mailboxes.

To be honest this server is in a bad way I cannot do backups the software has died. I am getting a new server and at the moment I am stripping it down to see if I can get the exchange running without it. This server is a DC with FMSO roles by the way (I know I shouldn't have installed Exchange on a DC). Something I have noticed is that when I take this server offline the outlook connect to the new exchange says cannot connect to the new server so something needs moving over I take it.

When I try to uninstall I get the following message:

Hi I haven't looked into detail in the documentation but can you send me a list of services that will need to be sent over to the new server if they are not in the documentation please?

When I have moved these services and setup a new DC can I just simply pull the plug on this old server?

Thanks

If you are able to see disconnected mailbox, you can try to delete them i.e right click the mailbox and click  on purge.

If you want to do manaul uninstallation

Please go through the article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833396

because in the above article it is showing the list of component key which need to be removed

before you could go for uninstall, please check that you moved the mailbox, PF and system folder to new server and shut down the old server atleast for 2-3 days to check is there any issue. If you won't find anyissue simply do manual uninstall as per the article and then plug out your server

Hi thanks for your help.

Exchange had problems un-installing. So i pulled the plug on the server and cleaned up System manager and AD manually.
