hi not quite following you, but if the logs are getting more and more, you need to run a backup program.. ntbackup for example. This will clear all the seeded logs from the drive. Charlie

Are you using ntbackup to backup the folders / directories or are you using ntbackup to backup the Exchange Information Store? If you use it to backup the directories where you have your Exchange databases, that's not a proper backup and the logs won't be removed. Start ntbackup, tell it you don't want it to start in "Wizard mode" (if it asks) and tell it "let me choose what I want to backup" (I think that's what it says). If you see the screen in ntbackup that allows you to see the tabs across the top and one says "Backup", to the left, you should see something like: - [ ] Desktop - [ ] My computer - [ ] 3 1/2 Floppy (A:) - [ ] Local Disk (C:) .. and so on. Near the bottom of that list, you'll see: + [ ] My Documents + [ ] Microsoft Exchange Server + [ ] My Network Places See that "Microsoft Exchange Server" stuff with the gray box? Expand it and drill down until you see your Exchange databases (ie, the "Info Store") that you need backed up. That's where you want to go to backup your Exchange server the proper way. When you go in there with ntbackup in this manner and backup your Exchange databases, then Exchange will know that the databases were backed up and that it can safely delete the old log files. When you just backup directories, Exchange doesn't know that a backup happened so it won't remove those log files. Did that make sense? Let us know if you still need help!

I understand and can answer your question exactly. I'm sure not many people know this and thats why its my pleasure to state that Exchange 2007 by itself generates logs for even an idle state of LCR / CCR. The following table lists the maximum number of transaction log files that will be generated each day by an idle storage group as a result of log roll activity as stated in the doc below http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc535020(EXCHG.80).aspx Maximum number of logs generated each day due to log roll activity Mailbox server configuration Maximum number of transaction logs generated per day by an idle storage group Stand-alone (with or without LCR) Single copy cluster 96 Cluster continuous replication 960 Hope this answers your question - incase, it dsnt do tell me.
