Exchange 2010. We have several shared mailboxes and most of them work well. However, there are two shared mailboxes and one individual mailbox that return the message "This mailbox can't be opened. For more information, contact your helpdesk".

I have no idea where to start looking for this issue as I have never seen it before and a google search doesn't appear to be helping.

Any assistance/links would be most appreciated.

I presume you meant "reapply" but Yes, I have. I have also tried adding members as individuals (rather than as part of a Global Security Group which was the first attempt).

Ooops.  Yes. I meant 'reapply'. 

Try logging in as the shared mailbox account.  See if it will open that way.  Most likely the account is disabled so you will need to re-enabled it first.

Hi Rusty,
Thanks for your assistance. Sorry about the time delay but I am in New Zealand (GMT +13 with DST)

I tried your suggestion and unfortunately it didn't work. I still get the same message "This mailbox can't be opened. For more information, contact your helpdesk."

If you re-enabled the account associated w/ the shared mailbox and you still could not login as that account (let's say OWA) then the fact it is shared is no longer of a concern.

Troubleshoot it like you would any other mailbox that you cannot open. Just for fun, disable (disassociate) the mailbox from the shared mailbox account, run clean-mailboxdataabse then reconnect.

I will be trying that today or tomorrow (a bit busy at the moment). Will let you know how I get on.
Fixing this issue will be really good but what would be even better is how/why this has happened to only a couple of accounts and not to others. I think this will take some time to dig out.
