Hi everyone. I'm transitioning our Exchange 2003 server to 2007 (yes finally) and have some questions before I pull the trigger.

Our design is simple... One 2003 server being transitioned to a single 2007 server. No DMZ server. The firewall is open on the necessary IP and ports to the 2003 server now for OWA and RPC over HTTP. Active Sync is also configured and we do have a number of mobile clients using Blackberries (BES 3.6), Droids, IPhones and Microsoft phones.

I've already prepared both servers according to this document http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Transitioning-Exchange-2000-2003-Exchange-Server-2007-Part1.html. I am on Part 3 now http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Transitioning-Exchange-2000-2003-Exchange-Server-2007-Part3.html where it reads "Pointing Internet Clients to the Client Access Server"

My questions are...
1) Do I need to have both servers 2003 and 2007 on a public IP address or only the new 2007 server? If they both need to be public, what server will I configure the MX for during mailbox migration? I plan to take my time moving mailboxes. It may take me up to a week to complete the mailbox moves.
2) Will the OWA simply redirect from whichever server I keep as the public IP or will I tell the users "Use the original server public IP until your mailbox is moved, after which you will use this public IP". We don't use OMA so I'm not worried about that.
3) If the OWA redirects, how does that work externally? I need to keep that functioning during this transition period. Have I answered one of my own questions that I will need to assign a new public IP to the new 2007 server?
4) Should I request a new ssl for the new server ahead of time?

These are the details I want to get right the first time. I have a reputation to protect :)

Thanks all!
Steve
