Hello all. I'm in the process of transitioning from Exchange 2k3 to a 2k7 server (Exchange Standard 2007 SP1 running on a Server Standard 2008 machine). In following the guide here: http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Transitioning-Exchange-2000-2003-Exchange-Server-2007-Part3.html - I see that I should be able to connect to the new server, login, and because of backward compatibility - users should be directed to their mailboxes that (for the moment) still reside on the old mail server. When I attempt to login with my username/password, however, I get an error message stating "Outlook Web Access could not find a mailbox for <DOMAIN\user>." I'd like to try and resolve this issue before I move on to transitioning the mailboxes between servers so that our mobile users can continues to get their e-mail even during the transitionary period. Am I merely overlooking something? Where should I begin to troubleshoot this kind of connectivity?

What is the URL you are using to connect to OWA? Can you post the full error page you are seeing when you fail to log in?

ORIGINAL: de.blackman What is the URL you are using to connect to OWA? Can you post the full error page you are seeing when you fail to log in? The URL I've been testing with is both the localhost on the E2K7 box itself (https://127.0.0.1/owa) and within the local domain from my desktop (https://e2k7.faysharpe.net/owa) - both produce the same results. I haven't made the switch live/public yet, because I want to have things working before I take that step and risk "abandoning" my mobile device users. :) The full error text is as follows: Outlook Web Access could not find a mailbox for FAYSHARPE\dsnyder. If the problem continues, contact technical support for your organization and tell them the following: The mailbox may be stored on a Microsoft Exchange 2000 or Microsoft Exchange 2003 server, or the Active Directory user account was created recently and has not yet replicated to the Active Directory site where this Client Access server is hosted.

There's your problem right there! The /OWA directory is a new virtual directory that allows users with mailboxes on exchange 2007 mailbox servers to connect using OWA. In a period of co-existence, Exchange 2003 users will be able to gain access to their mailboxes through an Exchange 2007 CAS server using the /EXCHANGE virtual directory. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998849.aspx

I'm not sure if I love or hate that it was such a simple thing. But I'm thrilled that it works as you directed me. Thanks! I'm officially your site's newest fan now. Between the guide I'm reading and these forums I'm hooked!

I am looking for clarification on this, please. I am planning to transition from Exchange 2003 to 2007. During the migration, some mailboxes will remain on the Exchange 2003 server (we only haev one). I need to make sure I can provide OWA for BOTH 2003/2007 users via the SAME URL. From what I read in this thread, as long as the users access OWA via the /exchange directory, they will get redirected properly to either the 2003 or 2007 server, depending where their mailbox is. (That's what I undersatnd from de blackman's posts) However, I found this on MS website (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998849.aspx) that says the following about the /exchange virtual directory: "This virtual directory is used by Outlook Web Access when accessing mailboxes on computers that are running Exchange 2003 or Exchange 2000. If your organization includes Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 mailboxes in addition to Exchange 2007 mailboxes, all users can access Outlook Web Access through the /Exchange Note: If the server that hosts the Client Access server role also hosts the Mailbox server role, users who use the /Exchange virtual directory will be redirected to the /owa virtual directory, which cannot be used by Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 mailboxes. If you must support Outlook Web Access access to Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 mailboxes, do not install the Client Access and Mailbox roles on the same Exchange 2007 server. " Reading that, I would think that, if I want to use a single OWA website address for both 2003 and 2007, I need to seperate my CAS and Mailbox server. Comments?
