I have two issues with a New Instillation on Exchange 2003 on a Server 2003 machine which is a member of a Domian with one server using Exchange 2000 & server 2000 I used this Guide http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Migrating-Exchange2000-Exchange-2003-Hardware.html I went thorugh the guide with no visisble Errors being thorwn up. BUT The first Issue: The Microsoft Exchnage POP3 Service isn't Installed, There was Windows POP3 service there, Which I must of Installed when setting-up all the other services needed to Install Exchnage, I have subsiquenty removed that Service and run the Exchange Instillation & installed SP2 again but still the MS Exchange POP3 service isn't beign installed Second Issues: For another reason there is no SMTP mail being Sent/Recieved by the server, well iI say not, I have looked though the Queing part of the EMS and there is some stuff there, its that they more than likely not being placed etc in the User Mail boxes. I Have changed the Port forwarding to the new Server. Steve Frustrated @ Exchange.

You shouldn't remove IIS components from under Exchange. Therefore I would suggest that you remove Exchange correctly using add/remove programs, drop the machine in to a workgroup, and wipe it. Then rebuild it using a new machine name. I work on the simple basis that if a new build does not come up clean first time, then it is a bad build. While you can see some affects of that, you have no idea if there are other problems that you cannot see. For the sake of another two hours work to rebuild it, I would prefer to do that and have a known good build, rather than an "ok" build that might have further problems down the line. The fact that you are also having SMTP issues would tend to point to a problem with IIS. Rebuild the system fresh, and then confirm everything is installed correctly before continuing. Simon.

Hi Simon, Thanks for your input, So i should assume as Windows POP3 was installed b4 exchange it perminantly requisitioned the POP3 port no matter if it installed or not? So Exchange POP3 wont install no matter what I do. All day today i have been looking around the net and cant find any other solution to the problem, so its a start all over again, 'Wipe the Drive' and start again. I am not really concerned about the users mailboxes, as I am the only one using Outlook on the Domain, the others are all using POP3, and I have an outlook pst/archive of the mails. So tonight I'll be reinstalling Server & Exchange on a new, but Same Domain name without the old Exchange server connected.. I'll remove all the other machines from the domain first too.

Exchange doesn't have a POP3 service. Exchange uses the Windows IIS for some of its protocols - SMTP, POP3 and IMAP. It just makes changes to them. That is why you cannot remove IIS components once Exchange is installed. If you are going to wipe the machine do ensure that you remove Exchange correctly first. Otherwise it leaves the server in the domain and makes a mess. Simon.
