Hi

I have a user who, when connected to Exchange 2003 using Outlook 2003 SP1 he cannot always view the public folders.

It has a message saying:

Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook could not access the specified folder location. The connection to Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.

In the bottom right of outlook it states offline, but he is actually connected to the network ok and sending / receiving mail is fine (therefore must be connected!)

No other users have this issue, just the one, so I know there isn't a problem with the public folders themselves.

Any ideas much appreciated.

Does the user have the "Create named properties in the information store" permission to the CN=Configuration,DC=Domain, DC=com,CN=Services, CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Organization

You can check this with ADSIEdit

Wait he can view them sometimes? During the time he cannot view the folders you should try testing the connection from his workstation to the exchange server. Can he view them no problems with OWA?

Hi,

This problem does not occur in OWA. Mail is filtering through fine and he can also send no problems when this message is on the screen therefore the conenction to Exchange is fine.

I also saw the MS article but didn't see it as relevant as it is not a permission error message he is getting. Also, this relates to Exchange 2000, not 2003.

I have exactly the same problem. Running Outlook 2K3 SP1. I can view the folders in OWA, but my Oulook client is broken. I can view "inbox" but not my "sent" items. I was operating in "Cache mode" but have subsequently switched mode. Thereafter I deleted the .ost file, and recreated from scratch, but I still get the same problem.
I also cannot clear my Reminders.
