I sent an email earlier today to a new co-worker. Unfortunately, I sent it to his old email address as I had not updated his new contact information in Outlook. As it turned out his old company must have taken off his profile because I got the following message:
'Your message
To: Distribution List Subject: Message Sent: Mon, 12 Jul 2004 18:03:07 -0400
did not reach the following recipient(s):
c=US;a= ;p=XYZ ? Company;o=XYZ LA;dda:SMTP=jsmith@xyz.com; on Mon, 12 Jul 2004 18:03:46 -0400
The recipient name is not recognized
The MTS-ID of the original message is: c=us;a= ;p=xys ?company;l=ABCDEFG MSEXCH:IMS:XYZ & Company:XYZ_LA 0 (000C05A6) Unknown Recipient
Since his previous employer is a competitor and the nature of the email is considered ot be confidential, I want to make sure that a copy is not residing on their system. Any help would be appreciated.

Since the mailbox at their domain has been removed, the email bounced, so there should be no copy of that email on their server, but if you want to recall the message to be sure, and you are using OutLook, go to your "Sent Items", double click on the email, click on "Actions" tab, and select "Recall this message...", so if the message had not been open, it will be recalled.

Unfortunately I don't think I can recall the message because I am using a POP3 email server not MS Exchange. Either way I do not have this option under Actions in Outlook (using 2000). Is this correct?

You have to go to the "Sent Items", find that email you sent, double click on it to open it up, and than goto "Actions" there you will see "Recall this message...", but it might not be very successful as I tried it, all it did was sent another email saying that I wanted to recall the orginal message, and the orginal message was in the destination inbox also and I was able to access them both.

This is the help from OutLook in regards to Recalling messages:
Recall or replace a message you've already sent This feature requires Microsoft Exchange.
You can recall or replace a message only if its recipient is logged on and using Microsoft Outlook and has not read the message or moved it from their Inbox.

Regarding recalling messages. This does not work for two reasons, (a) I am not using MS Exchange and (b) the message was initally undeliverable. My main question was even if the email in undeliverable, is there a residual copy of the message left somewhere in the abyss of their MS Exchange email server?
