Hello all,

I am having some trouble with an NDR that I am getting. Here is the NDR:

Subject: Undeliverable: FW: DEV#10,426

Subject: FW: DEV#10,426
Sent: 24/01/2005 10:49 AM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

user@auroraland.ca on 24/01/2005 10:50 AM

The destination server for this recipient could not be found in Domain Name Service (DNS). Please verify the email address and retry. If that fails, contact your administrator.
<servername.domain.com #5.4.0>

The address has been verified as correct and we can receive email from it but we can't reply, forward or send to this address. I have tried nslookup to check the DNS on the domain and I get a respponse that the domain doesn't exist??! I have also tried to telnet to it on port 25 and it too fails. I have looked a bit online but haven't found anything that has helped so far. One thing I did find was to try running a report on www.dnsreport.com and it too says that the domain doesn't exist. But seeing as this person can send from that address wouldn't that prove that it does???

Is there anyone who can help me out with this? Thanks a ton!

Hi Mav,

I have also tried to do a lookup on this domain auroraland.ca on www.dnsstuff.com and it fails as it also does on www.dnsreport.com. If you are sure that they have a mail system from which they send emails, they might have a problem with their DNS records, like MX. They should get in touch with their ISP and make sure that these records are publicly available since no one on the Internet can reach them. Yes they will be able to send out but whoever wants to send to them will have this problem. The issue seems to be with their ISP's DNS records.

Hi Ron,

That's my conclusion as well. One thing that I did notice when I looked at their WHOIS info was that the status was showing as SUSPD. DO you happen to know if that may stand for SUSPENDED? I also noticed that the renewal date is today. Could it be that the domain has expired and that is what is causing this?

I am going to try and contact their admin to see if they can check things on their end or at least contact their ISP to check with them.

Thanks.

I think that you are right with the SUSPD. Either way, if they renew their registration it usually takes up to 48 hours for these records to get propagated over the Internet. ISP should be able to provide the correct answer in this situation.

Sounds good Ron. I am just waiting for a phone call from the IT person at this company so hopefully he can shed some light on this. Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.

Hi Mav,

I have tried using nslookup against some of the reliable DNS servers on the Internet. They are invisible right now.
It was my pleasure.
