I don't know how it happened, but if i go into my SMTP virtual server queues there are hundreds of entries of domains that are not my companies. i fear that i am allowing relaying somehow. how can i disable this feature?

I am unable to send out emails from within my organization. is this the reason for this?

how can i delete all of these queues and prevent this from happening in the future?

Thank you,
Mike

You can test your server to see if it's a mail relay here:

http://www.abuse.net/relay.html

There are serveral places to test, this is just one.

Hi Mike,

Sounds like you either have an open relay or that you have experienced a SMTP Auth relay attack.

Start by reading below article in order to see, if your Exchange 2000 server has an open relay:

http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/MF005.html

Then check below article by Vamsoft:

http://www.vamsoft.com/orf/authattack.asp

To delete all mail in all queues do the following:

- Stop the SMTP service
- Navigate to:

C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\Mailroot\vsi 1

here you should simply delete the content of the queues folder, which I recommend you do through a command prompt, as Explorer most likely will hang.
