Hi,

Last weekend, i have successfully installed exch 2k7 in my windows2000(prepwin2k3) domain with an old exchange 2000 server.
Everything went well.
My old exch2k server was also a win2k domain controller.
So i removed his role as dc, and raised up my domain to win2k3.

The problem i now have, that i can't uninstall my exchange 2000 from my old win2k server because the win 2000 active dir. is missing...i was a little bit to fast..

Can i just ignore this and refomat this server, or do i still have to manually remove some old exch2k objects in active directory ?

Thx

You've confused me, are there any DCs left? Where are they?

hi,

As per Mark yes it is bit confused and agree with him

Assuming You have one DC atleast with all FSMO roles.

Need to identify why you are not able to uninstall the exchange, what is the error message, applicaiton log -?

Second thing you can go with manual removing of exchagne 2000 need to confirm what about your Public folder and system folder ? System folder is important, what about them? any idea..

Need some information so that Mark or me can assist you in this by giving some suggestion

Sorry, I will explain it better.

Before I migrated to win2k3&exch2k7, I had  a win2k domain with 2 win2k dc's and on 1 of them exchange 2k installed.
This last server was struggling with hardware issues so I had to replace him.
Last weekend, I installed a new 64bit server with win2k3.
I prepared my win2k domain for win2k3 and afther that, I promoted this new server to DC.
After that, I moved al the FSMO and Global catalog roles to this new server.
Than I did an upgrade to win2k3 at my 2nd DC (dns,dhcp,..)
When this was done, I installed exch2k7 to my new server, and moved all the mailboxes.
Everything went fine, I followed the turtorial  'How a transition from Exchange Server 2000/2003 to Exchange Server 2007 is performed' from Hendrik Walther.

So the last thing I had to do was uninstalling exch2k from my old server, demote the server from being a dc and than raise up my domain to the highest level, win2k3.
At this last stage, I was a little bit too fast: I first demoted the server form being a dc, than i raised up my domain to win2k3 and after that i tried to do an uninstall of exchange 2K.... but then the message appeared that I couldn't do the uninstall because he can't find the windows 2k active directory....

So, can I just leave it now this way and shutdown this server or do I need to manually remove some objects in active directory from the old exch2k installation as that normally should happened automatically when I did an uninstall before a raised up my domain from win2k to win2k3 ?

Thx

I see now that i have a problem with my public folders and free/busy data..
When i installed exchange 2k7, i configured just 1 replica for 1 of my old public folders in exchange 2000.
I see now that i can't open that public folder from my outlook 2003 client in exch2k7. I also can't retrieve free/busy data when i plan a meeting:-(
In my exch2k7 application eventlog, is see every hour :
eventid : 8207
MSExchangeFBPublish

Error updating public folder with free/busy information on virtual machine...

The error number is 0x80040115.
:-(

Is there a way i can solve this ?
My old exch2k is down...

Did you get an answer on this?  There's no response here, and I have a similar problem.

As I do as well. I gave up on the public folder replication and just made new public folder on the 207 machine. When I moved the mail boxes I ended up with a handful left on 2k exch in a disabled mode. There is a corresponding box on 2007. BUt because they are still on 2k exch I can't uninstall the 2k exch server..... :(
