Hi All,

Having introduced Exchange 2007 into my E2K3 environment and experienced all sorts of screw ups and problems I'm currently trying to uninstall it. However when I come to uninstall the MailBox service I get an error saying that the Public Folder database contains specified folder replicas.

I've followed the information given here

and have used the

MoveAllReplicas.ps1 -Server MySourceServer -NewServer MyTargetServer

command. However I still cannot remove the public folder either from the console or the powershell. When I run the

Get-PublicFolderStatistics -Server <server with public folder database to be removed>

command I get the following results (i've removed ItemCount and LAst Access Time). The Item count for all of them is 0 except the first for which the count is 3.

These folders appear to by system folders and I cannot find a way to either see them in System Manager or remove them.   They also do not seem to want to replicate to the exchange 2003 server.

Has anyone got any ideas as to how I can remove these public folders so that I can uninstall E2K7 from my exchange environment?

Hi,

I have run across this problem before. It may be that your only option is to remove the public folder store using ADSIEdit.

I did all of the above and still can't uninstall it from one server. I have another server that is running exchange no problem. I am thinking about deleting the operating system and reinstall again with no exchange 2007

My understanding is that if you do a Get-PublicFolderStatistics cmdlet and data is returned as a result, you will not be able to remove the store. If, after doing this cmdlet the only data returned is system folders or other public folders that you don't mind losing, then you can remove them via:

Get-PublicFolderStatistics | Remove-PublicFolder

I suggest you try this out in a test environment first.

Hiya J, I did an article on how you can get around this with ADSI edit - have a look here:

Be very careful when using ADSI edit, and ensure that you only work with the public folder entry for the Exchange 2007 Server.
To echo the statement made by Neil if you should choose to follow the instructions provided in my article - try it in a test lab first.

A late addtion, I know... but here is how I've gotten around this problem.

Take your Public Folders offline, move them ( or rename the directory) and bring them back online.

I was able to uninstall Exchange 2007 afterwards. Though - it may not be a 'healthy' way to do it.

@ Neil,
Well when I had written that article I had tried the remove-PublicFolder cmdlet (a few times) I was desperate, had nothing to lose, wife wanted to go out - so I broke out my large hammer and hit the configuration container with it - it worked, job done - happy wife in Primark, happy me (no public folders) the rest is history.
The surprising thing is that this still seems to cause so many people grief, and the amount that I have spoken to that comment that the remove-publicfolder method doesn't seem work that often - roll on SP1.

Sherlock,

This will remove the Public folders:

In ADSIedit.msc go to Configuration, Services, Exchange, and navigate to the E2K7 server, and �InformationStore�.
Find the public folder store object, and go to its Properties.
Find the attribute, msExchOwningPFTree. Edit it, and remove references in it.
Apply these changes.
Now, in ADSIedit, navigate to the �Folder Hierarchy� object. Then, open its Properties.
Browse to the msExchOwningPFTreeBL attribute. You should not see E2K7 server in the list.
Navigate back to the Exchange server, and locate the public folder store object again. You can now remove it. Apply the changes.
You should be able to uninstall the server now.
You might also need to remove the Administrative E2K7 Group from AD afterwards.

Guys,

Dont jump the gun, hasnt any one ever heard of PFDavAdmin. I mean jesus why does every one love to go play bang bang with adsiedit al da time......use the simple way out some times.

Perhaps you could elaborate a little more on how this could help in this particular situation. I, like many others would like to see an explanation on how PFDAV could get around the exact situation.

Honestly if you have gotten around this problem using PFDAV please post your step by step guide here so other can benefit.
