When I create a new mail enabled universal group, the first time I send mail to the group, it return an NDR. If I immediately resend, the message is delivered without any problems. If I wait about five minutes and try to send mail to the group again, the same scenario happens. This only happens for new groups that I create. The existing groups function normally. This just began this weekend, and no changes were made to Exchange or Active Directory over this time period. Any ideas?

What does the NDR say?
Many times this is because AD is not completely replicated and Exchange will go to the first AD DC/GC for mail delivery.

There are a few items that you can do to troubleshoot this issue but most of them are in-depth AD and Exchange steps that may require support from MS.

I would start by troubleshooting AD first though.
