Hi Folks

I have exchange 2007 and exchange 2003 running - (Everyone is migrated of 2003 to 2007) also have BB server
I have 4 dC/gc. olddc1 has all FSMO roles.

I had turned off olddc-2 and newdc1 for some maintenance. During that time a user called to say he wants to stop email forwarding. I went into EMC and turning off forwarding and clicked apply - after awhile it came with error. So I tried to add to reconnect a mailbox to temp user and that fails as well.

set-mailbox

The Exchange server address list service failed to respond. This could be because of an address list or email address policy configuration error.

Error:

Exchange Management Shell command attempted:
Connect-Mailbox -Identity 'c217f4e7-59c1-4514-bf76-fbfb85b2060a' -Database 'exchange.mydomain.com\UsersDisabled\UsersDisabled' -User 'mydomain\atimes' -Alias 'atimes'

Elapsed Time: 00:01:24

When I turned on olddc-2 and newdc-2 and tried these tasks it started to work again. In the EMC I dont see a group for exchange server admin but in ad mydomain.com/Microsoft Exchange Security Groups/Exchange Servers if has my MB and Hub transfort machines listed.

But my real question is why doesnt my exchange tasks work when my old-dc2 is offline. And I narrowed it down to just the olddc-2.
I still get mail and can send mail as well. Just cannot do exchange tasks.

Regards
Joe

When you turned off the 2 domain controllers, did you also restart all exchange services? Remember that exchange will randomly pick one of your domain controllers\global catalogs and use it. Restarting the exchange services when those servers were offline would force exchange to find and use remaining DCs\GCs.
