We have just installed a new server and are hosting our own e-mail on our server.

Our ISP has set up Reverse DNS lookup for our IP address last week for the outbound e-mail to work. It looks like it is working fine for the outbound mail initially.

Then we noticed some of our outbound mails had been sitting on the Queue for sometime.

We found out that some mails are able to sent out without any problem. These included some replied e-mails and some new mails to certain e-mail addresses only. Others just sit on the server Queue.

We also cannot figure out a new e-mail with the e-mail address (that was replied and sent sucessfully) cannot be sent but is sitting on the server queue.

Has anyone come accross this problem?? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi,

have you tried to use a Smart Host (SMTP from your ISP) to test if you can send out to every domain?
If not try it, open System Manager expand your Exchange Server --> protocols, --> smtp and right click proberties, --> Delivery --> Advanced.

Hope this helps you.

Best regards

Sounds like you could be having DNS issues. Make sure your exchange server is using upstream DNS server (Your ISP's DNS server).

Thanks for the reply. I have tried to use Smart Host as suggested by Bjoern. No change, the mails still stuck on the Queue.

Hi,

are all exchange services, at least the smtp services running on your machine? Can you make a dns lookup with nslookup and it work? Do you have a firewall which restrict port 25 of your machine? Do your dns server point to an external dns server?

Hi Bjoern,

The smtp is running. I have check that it is installed properly and tested following the Exchange 2003 Transport and Routing guide. Checked the Nslookup as well. The DNS works fine.

We are using Trendmicro firewall/antivirus which uses port 25. Our mail server uses port is 10025.

There is no problem receiving mail.

As for sending mail. We have tried using Smart host and external server. Still have the same problem.

We do not understand is that we are able to push some mails (reply mail only and not new mail to same address) through the Queue.
