Good Morning, I am kinda curious regarding this Cmdlet (Update-SafeList). I am not sure why it is needed to sync the Contacts, External users, Safe Senders List, and Safe Recipients List from the Outlook User's Mailbox to the AD User Object. Am I misunderstanding its process? Technet has stated that this cmdlet should be run on a regular basis so I have a batch file (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998280(EXCHG.80).aspx) that has the powershell commands to accomplish this but shouldnt this refresh already be part of the Exchange deployment? I can see that this cmdlet is unnecessary unless you use the Anti-SPAM capabilities of Exchange 2007. Is that why it was created as a manual process? I assume the safe lists and such are on the server so the Outlook users do not need to be online when the Update-SafeList cmdlet is run. Is that true or do I have to find a time window where I can catch my Outlook users? Thanks.

Hi, From what I always understood was that the safe list that is replicated to the AD is used by the Anti-spam agents. Since they use the AD to determine if a user has classified a user as a safe sender or not. With the command update-safelist you will perform an synchronisation to the users safelist to the AD so the anti-spam agentscan use it. About the question if a users needs to be online, no this is not needed because the command will get the info from the users mailbox. Why the process is manually, I don't now an exact reason but its's worked as designed.

Thank you very much for the reply. I will schedule the batch file to run nightly. :-)
