Has anyone seen a procedure to move/migrate Exchange 5.5 SP3 from an older Compaq Box with Windows NT 4.0 SP6a to a brand new COMPAQ box with Windows 2000 Server.

I am doing a Exchange 5.5 on NT4 SP6A to Win2k migration 2/12/03.

Earlier this month, I did a test run on getting Exchange 5.5 to run under Windows 2000 and did have much trouble. I am still unhapply about the ldap issue.

It's easiest to create the new server, move the mailboxes, routing calculation, pub folders, free busy and IMS to the new box.

This is quit easy.
1. Bluid new server off the network with the same name, You would need a lab with a PDC ( Make sure this was a BDC first in DOMAIN , remove BDC from DOMAIN into Lab and promote to PDC this is to get your service Acc the same
2. Install exch 5.5 on server , same ORG name, Site Name, Drive letters and make sure you database on same drives as old server
3.Disable all exch service, rename server to XXX,
4.Make new server a member server in old DOM
5.Stop Exchange service on old server
6.Copy you Dir.edb to your new server Dsadata (no log file needed) folder , Make sure its on same drive letter
7. Copy your Priv.edb and Pub.edb to new server Mdbdata folder Make sure its on same drive letter
8.Shut down your old Exch server
9.Rename your new server to your old Exch name
10.Start your Service System att first
Dir second
now try and start Information store
Will receive error 1011
Run Isinteg -patch
Start service
Make sure that on your new server there is no old log files and you don't need any log file from old one
