Hi. I'm the network admin of a TV station and I'd like to upgrade the corporate e-mail server from EX5.5 running on NT4.0 to Exchange2k. We got a new exchange 2000 server but we'd like to keep the domain controller on the old NT4.0 server which was also running Exchange 5.5
Reasons: Very old apps that are not compatible with win2k.
Well, I dunno if I'm confusing "[Confused]" you('cause I already am)
The diagram would look like:
code:

Old config: 1 server
---------------------
| NT4.0 Server |
| Domain Controller |
| Exchange 5.5 |
---------------------

New Config: 2 servers
--------------------- ----------------
| NT4.0 Server | | Win2k Server |
| Domain Controller | |Exchange 2000 |
--------------------- ----------------

Anyone know any steps or references to this migration scenario?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated
Thanks in advance,
koji

Hi,
In order to install E2K you must be runing Active Directory. Since you have an NT 4.0 PDC what I would recommend is to use the computer you intend to install with E2K as a Windows 2000 Domain Controller. This will solve your problem. Except for this the migration should be usual with ADC and Mailbox movement and all. I would also recommend that when you finish moving the info from the old serv you will uninstall the E5.5.
This configuration will prevent you from going to Native Mode in Active Directory, But since it's a simple network (so it seems from yuor description) this shouldn't be a problem.
NOTE! be sure to read the info about Exchange server on a domain controller PRIOR to installation - you may have to change the LDAP ports.
Good Luck..
