I am in the process of upgrading our server. We are currently using Exchange Server 5.0 on our WinNT 4.0 server.

We have already moved everything but Exchange Server 5.0. to the new server that is currently also running WinNT 4.0. We want to upgrade to Win2K Adv Srvr on the new server.

I am looking for recommendations regarding upgrading Exchange Server. It appears that an upgrade from Exchange Server 5.5 to 2000 has much more information available.

I would rather install a new Exchanger Server 2000 installation on
the new server. Can I migrate the data and user accounts from the existing 5.0 database files to the new server? How would you upgrade Exchange Server in this scenario?

Thanks for your help.

Chuck

No

You would have to go to Exch 5.5 sp3 first. If you don't have many mailboxes, or Public Folder data, I would do a clean install of e2k after having Exmerged the data out of 5.0 box. Then import data w/ Exmerge into e2k.

That's ok.

You would have to upgrade first to Exch 5.5, SP3 or later, then you could do an Inplace upgrade to e2k, or "Swing" upgrade, etc....

If you don't have much PF data, you could just use Exmerge to get Mail data, and copy PF data to PST, then import these into a clean install of E2k.
